Fans originally believed GTA 6 would come to PC in 2026, about a year after the planned console launch. But now that the console version itself is delayed until 2026, the PC release may not arrive until even later.
Looking at Rockstar’s history, it’s clear that PC gamers are always made to wait. GTA 4 released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in April 2008, then came to PC after eight months. But GTA 5 followed a different path—launched in 2013 for consoles and only reached PC in 2015, nearly two years later. This delay seems intentional, part of Rockstar’s method.
The main reason behind this gap is optimization. Console development is easier due to fixed hardware setups. But for PCs, where every system can be different, making a game run smoothly takes serious time. Rockstar doesn’t want to rush it, especially for a game as detailed and graphics-heavy as GTA 6.When GTA 5 finally arrived on PC, it was one of the smoothest and most stunning open-world games available. The long delay allowed Rockstar to fine-tune every visual and performance element. It’s likely they want to give GTA 6 the same treatment.GTA 4’s PC launch was a disaster. The game suffered from poor optimization, performance issues, and bugs—many of which were never fixed by Rockstar. In fact, it was the modding community that eventually made the game playable. With GTA 6, Rockstar won’t want to repeat the same mistake.Right now, there’s no official release date for GTA 6 on PC. But judging by Rockstar’s past behavior and the shift in console launch timelines, PC players shouldn’t expect it before 2027.
