In a surprising incident, a young man has been arrested for stealing a security guard’s gun and ammunition from Nepal Bank in Saptari. The suspect, 20-year-old Apsad Ansari from Birpur, Saptari, was caught by the Area Police Office in Lahan.
The theft occurred around 12:29 AM on Jestha 9. During the night shift at Nepal Bank’s Kalyanpur branch in Khadak Municipality, two guards, Pramod and Parshuram Chaudhary, were asleep in their room. It was then that Ansari allegedly snuck in and stole a 12-barrel single-shot gun, 20 rounds of bullets, 2 khukuris, a computer, and a digital scale.
According to DSP and spokesperson Jitendra Basnet of Saptari District Police, the guards noticed the missing items after waking up and immediately informed the police. The information was relayed through police networks and shared with nearby Siraha district authorities.
Ansari was arrested around 3:45 AM from Hospital Chowk, Lahan, by the Siraha police team. During questioning, he admitted to hiding the stolen weapons in a bush approximately 500 meters west of the bank. The police have since recovered the items.
The motive behind the theft is still unknown, and further investigation is ongoing.
