Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh recently hit back at a social media user who criticized Hindi cricket commentary, calling it one of the “most cringiest things” on Earth. The exchange sparked widespread debate, with some supporting Singh’s stance and others defending the fan’s opinion.
The controversy began when Singh shared a photo of himself outside a hotel in Dubai, captioned “Jeet ka Jashn” (Celebration of Victory), following India’s triumph over Pakistan in a Champions Trophy match. In response, a fan commented, “Hindi commentary can rank among the most cringiest things on this beautiful blue planet.”
Singh, unhappy with the remark, lashed out at the fan, implying that he was ashamed of his own language. “Wah Angrej ki aulaad. Shame on you. Apni bhasha bolne aur sun ke fakr mehsoos hona chahiye” (Wow, descendant of the British. Shame on you. You should feel proud to speak and hear your own language), he retorted.

Singh’s response quickly gained traction, amassing over a million views. However, not everyone agreed with his perspective. Many defended the fan, arguing that his criticism was directed at the quality of Hindi commentary rather than the language itself.
“Just to clarify, he is talking about Hindi ‘commentary,’ not the Hindi ‘language.’ If the commentary was good, nobody would complain,” one user pointed out.
