Home Minister Refuses to Resign Amid Visa Row, Asks for Time to Speak in Parliament

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has once again made it clear that he will not step down, despite growing pressure from opposition parties over the ongoing visit visa controversy. Speaking at the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Wednesday, he urged the opposition to create a space for him to address the Parliament instead of demanding his resignation.

Wants to Answer in Parliament, Not Committee
Lekhak explained that while he could respond to committee questions, the matter holds national interest and needs to be addressed in the full House. “Since members beyond this committee are also curious, I request to speak in Parliament where I can answer all questions,” he said.

CIAA Investigation Ongoing
The controversy stems from alleged irregularities in the handling of visit visas at Tribhuvan International Airport’s Immigration Office. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) is currently investigating several employees. The issue has implicated Minister Lekhak, prompting the opposition to repeatedly disrupt Parliament and call for his resignation.

Parliament Session Set for 1 PM Today
A meeting of the House of Representatives is scheduled for 1 PM today, where the Home Minister may get the opportunity to speak.
