A horrifying incident has sent shockwaves through the community of Barekot, Nepal, after a three-year-old girl was found brutally murdered. Asmita Sarki, the daughter of Shiv Bahadur Sarki, a resident of Barekot Rural Municipality-7 Syala, was reported missing on Thursday afternoon. Her body was later discovered concealed under straw, with her throat slit.
Local police suspect that the girl was sexually assaulted before being killed. A 12-year-old boy from the neighboring village of Tasi has been taken into custody in connection with the crime. According to District Police Chief DSP Purushottam Prasad Pandey, the suspect used a sharp weapon to commit the heinous act.
“Initial investigations suggest that the boy attempted to rape the girl, but when she resisted, he slit her throat and suffocated her to death,” said DSP Pandey. “While we haven’t found definitive evidence of rape, the circumstances strongly point to a sexual assault.”
The arrested boy, a fourth-grader, was visiting relatives in the neighborhood on the day of the crime. After committing the murder, he fled to his home, where he was apprehended by the police. He is currently being held at a juvenile detention center.
This tragic incident has sparked outrage and grief throughout Nepal, highlighting the urgent need for stricter measures to protect children from violence. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
