Fans of the hit medical drama Hospital Playlist have reason to celebrate—several familiar faces are set to make cameo appearances in its highly anticipated spin-off series, Resident Playbook. According to reports on April 18, actors Kwak Sun Young, Shin Hyun Been, Jung Moon Sung, and Bae Hyeon Seong will appear in the new show, reigniting excitement among long-time viewers.
In response to the buzz, the production team kept details under wraps, teasing, “Please tune in to the broadcast to find out,” leaving fans to eagerly anticipate the surprise moments ahead.
Resident Playbook shifts focus to the lives of OB-GYN residents at the Jongro branch of Yulje Medical Center. The new ensemble cast features Go Youn Jung, Kang You Seok, Shin Si Ah, Han Ye Ji, and Jung Joon Won, and promises a heartfelt portrayal of the struggles and friendships formed within hospital walls.
Each of the returning actors made a lasting impact in Hospital Playlist. Kwak Sun Young portrayed Lee Ik Sun, a military officer and the spirited sister of Lee Ik Jun (Jo Jung Suk), whose romance with Kim Jun Wan (Jung Kyung Ho) tugged at viewers’ hearts. Shin Hyun Been took on the role of Jang Gyeo Ul, a reserved but dedicated general surgery fellow who became one half of the beloved “Winter Garden” couple with Ahn Jeong Won (Yoo Yeon Seok). Jung Moon Sung’s Do Jae Hak brought humor and heart to the thoracic surgery team, while Bae Hyeon Seong’s portrayal of the earnest intern Jang Hong Do charmed many.
Director Shin Won Ho had already hinted at these cameos during a Director’s Talk event on April 15, even confirming that the original main five—Jo Jung Suk, Jeon Mi Do, Jung Kyung Ho, Yoo Yeon Seok, and Kim Dae Myeung—would also make appearances.
Following Ahn Eun Jin’s recent surprise appearance in Episode 2, the director shared, “Characters from Hospital Playlist will appear as cameos in nearly every episode. Some will be playful, while others will hold emotional or narrative significance.” He added that Jung Kyung Ho’s character, Kim Jun Wan, known for his stern demeanor, is set to appear this week.
“With every episode, we hope viewers are reminded of the warmth and connection these characters brought—and continue to bring,” he said. “Please watch with open hearts.”
