The Sungabha Sainamaina Gold Cup International Invitational Knockout Football Tournament kicked off on Monday, with hosts Murgiya FC securing a winning start. In the opening match at Sainamaina Football Stadium, Murgiya FC defeated Gorkha Boys Sports Club, Butwal, with a 1-0 victory.
Match Summary
The only goal of the match came in the 47th minute. Murgiya FC took a quick free kick, with jersey number 21 receiving the ball and passing it to Roshan Pahari, who scored a well-placed tap-in goal. His decisive performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ title, along with a cash prize of NPR 5,000 and a trophy.
With this win, Murgiya FC has advanced to the quarterfinals. The tournament will continue on Tuesday, featuring the second pre-quarterfinal match between Nepal Police Club, Kathmandu, and Farsatikar Youth Club, Farsatikar, as confirmed by match coordinator Ashok Khadka.
Opening Ceremony & Tournament Details
The opening ceremony was conducted jointly by Sainamaina Municipality Mayor Phanendra Prasad Sharma, Deputy Mayor Bina Rana, Murgiya FC President Prabin Bhari, and other dignitaries.
The tournament is organized by Murgiya FC, Sainamaina-4, Murgiya, with Sainamaina Municipality, Rupandehi, as its patron. The champion team will receive NPR 700,000, while the runner-up will take home NPR 400,000. Additionally, the semifinalists will be awarded NPR 40,000 each. Sunagabha Public School, Sainamaina, is the main sponsor of the event.
The final match of the tournament is scheduled for March 12 (Falgun 28).
