Google has introduced a new way for users to remove personal information from search results. Now, users can directly request the removal of details like phone numbers, addresses, and email IDs if they appear on Google Search.
What is the ‘Results About You’ Tool? Google launched the ‘Results About You’ tool a few years ago to help users track and remove personal data from the internet. However, many users found it difficult to access since it was hidden in settings.
With the latest update, users can now request the removal of their information directly from Google Search.
How to Remove Your Personal Information
Follow these steps to request the removal of your personal details from Google Search:
- Search for Your Personal Information
- Type your phone number, address, or email into Google Search to see if it appears on any websites.
- Click on the Three Dots (…)
- Next to the search result that contains your personal details, click on the three-dot menu.
- Select ‘Remove Result’
- Click on the ‘Remove result’ button, which will open a new window with removal options.
- Choose the Reason for Removal
- Select ‘It shows my personal info, and I don’t want it there’ as the reason.
- Google Will Review Your Request
- If the request follows Google’s policies, the information will be removed from search results within minutes.
Important Note:
- Even if Google removes the result, the information may still exist on the original website. You may need to contact the website owner to remove it completely.
Other Content You Can Request to Remove Google also allows users to request the removal of the following content:
- Phishing websites (scam sites that steal information)
- Violent content
- Inappropriate or offensive material
- Outdated or incorrect information
Enhanced Monitoring with ‘Results About You’ Google has added a monitoring feature to the ‘Results About You’ tool. Users can log in with their Google account to track where their personal information appears online.
This new feature gives users more control over their privacy and helps them protect their personal data from unwanted exposure on the internet.
