Humla Declared a Literate District

Humla has officially been declared a literate district after achieving a 97.4% literacy rate among people aged 15 to 60. Out of 35,054 people in this age group, 33,095 are now literate, according to the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Humla.

With this, Humla becomes Nepal’s 67th literate district and the 8th in Karnali Province. The announcement was made with the slogan: “Literacy is our pride, a literate district is our achievement.”

Still, around 1,440 people in the district remain illiterate. The highest numbers are in Simkot (371), followed by Sarkegad (314), and other rural areas like Adanchuli, Chankheli, and Namkha.

Now, only two districts in Karnali Province—Kalikot and Dolpa—are yet to be declared literate. Authorities hope to reach 100% literacy across the province soon.
