The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed a record-breaking prize pool for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final, set to take place from June 11 to 15, 2025, at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. South Africa and Australia will clash for the coveted title in what promises to be a historic encounter.
Massive Prize Pool for the ICC World Test Championship Final
This edition of the WTC Final will feature a total prize pool of USD 5.76 million — more than double the amount awarded in the previous two editions. The winning team will take home USD 3.6 million, while the runners-up will receive USD 2.16 million. For comparison, winners of the 2021 and 2023 finals earned USD 1.6 million, and runners-up took USD 800,000.
Star-Studded Promotion Video Released
To build anticipation for the final, the ICC released a special promotional video featuring some of the game’s biggest names. Current stars like South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma, speedster Kagiso Rabada, and batter Aiden Markram appear alongside Australia’s Steve Smith and Travis Head. The video also features cricket legends such as Shaun Pollock, Dale Steyn, Matthew Hayden, Mel Jones, Nasser Hussain, Shoaib Akhtar, and Ravi Shastri.
South Africa’s Strong Campaign
South Africa reached the final by finishing at the top of the WTC standings. Their consistent performance included series victories over Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, along with a drawn series against India. This marks the Proteas’ first-ever appearance in a WTC Final.
They have announced a strong 15-member squad for the final, with Temba Bavuma leading the side. Key players include the returning Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, and spinner Keshav Maharaj.
Australia’s Path to Another Final
Defending champions Australia earned their spot in the final with a dominant 3-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy win over India. They also secured series wins against Pakistan (3-0), New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.
Australia’s 15-man squad includes captain Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and the returning all-rounder Cameron Green, who missed previous matches due to a back injury. Young batter Sam Konstas has also been added to the squad.
