India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after beating New Zealand by four wickets in the final at the Dubai International Stadium. This is India’s third Champions Trophy title, following wins in 2002 and 2013.
Rohit Sharma Leads the Chase
New Zealand, after winning the toss, chose to bat first and scored 251-7 in 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell (58) and Michael Bracewell (52) played key innings. India’s bowlers kept things tight, with Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav both taking two wickets each.
In reply, India chased down the target in 49 overs, finishing at 254-6. Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a brilliant 76 off 83 balls, hitting seven fours and three sixes. KL Rahul stayed unbeaten on 34 to guide India home. Hardik Pandya (18) and Rahul added a crucial 38-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
Rohit Clears Retirement Rumors
After the match, Sharma addressed speculation about his future. He confirmed he will continue playing ODIs and dismissed any rumors of retirement.
Unbeaten India in the Tournament
India remained unbeaten throughout the Champions Trophy. They won against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand in the group stage before defeating Australia in the semifinal. New Zealand, on the other hand, won against Pakistan and Bangladesh in Pakistan before traveling to Dubai for the final.
India played all their matches in Dubai after their government did not permit travel to host nation Pakistan due to security concerns.
India’s win marks their 23rd victory in 24 ICC tournament games since 2023. Their only loss came in the 2023 Cricket World Cup final against Australia.
New Zealand’s Journey
New Zealand fought hard but fell short in the final. They had earlier beaten South Africa in Lahore to reach this stage. Despite the loss, they showed great character throughout the tournament.
