India faces a major challenge heading into the Champions Trophy as star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out due to a lower back injury. However, coach Gautam Gambhir remains optimistic, seeing this as an opportunity for other fast bowlers to step up.

Bumrahโ€™s absence is a significant setback for India, the world’s top-ranked ODI team, as they aim for another ICC title. But Gambhir believes the team has enough depth to overcome the loss.

โ€œIf he’s injured, there’s nothing we can do about it. Of course, he is a crucial player, but we have others ready to take on the responsibility,โ€ Gambhir said.

Shamiโ€™s Return Brings Hope

The biggest boost for India is the return of veteran pacer Mohammed Shami. The 34-year-old fast bowler recently recovered from a heel injury and made his comeback during the T20 series against England.

โ€œHaving a world-class bowler like Shami back is a big plus. His experience and skill will be invaluable,โ€ Gambhir stated.

Shami was carefully managed upon his return, playing selected T20 and ODI matches while bowling long spells to regain full rhythm. He picked up five wickets across both formats, proving his readiness for the upcoming tournament.

Young Pacers Ready to Shine

With Bumrah out, young bowlers like Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh will have a chance to showcase their talent. Harshit impressed in his debut series against England, taking six wickets in three matches. Arshdeep, though featuring in only one ODI, has also shown promise.

โ€œThis is their moment to step up. Players like Harshit and Arshdeep have the potential to make a real impact,โ€ Gambhir added.

Indiaโ€™s Champions Trophy Challenge

India will kick off their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by a high-stakes clash against Pakistan on February 23 in Dubai. With Shami leading the attack and young pacers eager to prove themselves, Indiaโ€™s bowling unit will be put to the test in the prestigious tournament.

While Bumrahโ€™s absence is a tough blow, Indiaโ€™s pace battery remains strong, and the team will look to make the most of this opportunity on the big stage.
