Armed Police Force (APF) Inspector Bibek Joshi has been arrested for investigation into the death of Inspector Santoshi Mahat.
Santoshi was found hanging inside the barracks. Her family filed a complaint against Joshi, accusing him of abetting suicide. Following the complaint, police took Joshi into custody, according to DSP Basanta Sharma of the District Police Office, Kaski.
Joshi, who is stationed at Battalion No. 23 in Tanahun, is a 16th-batch basic training inspector. Santoshi’s family claims that the two were in a relationship and that she took her own life because of him.
The APF headquarters has also formed an investigation committee led by DIG Laxman Singh from the National Armed Police Training Academy, Matatirtha.
Santoshi Mahat was undergoing basic inspector training at the Riot Control Training Academy in Lamapatan, Pokhara when she was found dead near the women’s restroom in the barracks. She was from Sindhupalchok and was a 17th batch (2081 BS) inspector trainee.
She initially joined the APF as a constable in 2072 BS, was promoted to assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in 2078 BS, and was recently selected for inspector training in 2081 BS.
