Benjamin Cremaschi delivered a clutch diving header in the 30th minute to give Inter Miami a thrilling 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday. The much-anticipated clash, featuring two of Major League Soccer‘s last unbeaten teams, attracted a massive crowd of 60,614 fans to Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland.
This marks a single-game attendance record for a Crew home match and is also the largest non-NFL crowd in the stadium’s history.
Match Moved for Messi, But Cremaschi Shines
Originally scheduled in Columbus, the match was moved to the Cleveland Browns’ home stadium to accommodate growing interest in Inter Miami’s superstar Lionel Messi. Despite the attention on Messi, it was Cremaschi who took the spotlight with his winning goal.
Massive Support and Star Presence
“This is why Messi draws the crowds—he’s the greatest of all time,” Cremaschi said. “But today was about the team and staying focused on our goal.”
Celebrities like Kenny Atkinson (Cavaliers coach), Tristan Thompson, and Browns WR Jerry Jeudy were among those in attendance.
Ustari’s Heroics in Goal
Goalkeeper Oscar Ustari preserved the win with three incredible diving saves in the second half, securing the clean sheet.
Inter Miami’s Unbeaten Run Continues
Inter Miami’s record now stands at 5-0-3, while Columbus Crew suffered their first defeat, dropping to 5-1-3.
