Inter Milan came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against AC Milan in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final at San Siro on Wednesday. Tammy Abraham put Milan ahead early in the second half, but Hakan Calhanoglu’s long-range strike ensured Inter left with a valuable result.
Abraham Strikes First for AC Milan
The first half saw both teams struggling to find clear chances, with goalkeepers playing a key role. Inter’s Josep Martínez denied Rafael Leão from a tight angle, while Milan’s Mike Maignan produced a great save to stop a powerful free kick from Çalhanoğlu.
Just two minutes into the second half, AC Milan broke the deadlock. Youssouf Fofana provided a well-placed pass to Tammy Abraham, who skillfully moved past Inter’s defense and fired a low shot into the bottom corner, giving Milan a 1-0 lead.

Inter responded with more urgency after falling behind. In the 67th minute, Hakan Çalhanoğlu delivered a brilliant low strike from outside the box, beating Maignan and bringing Inter level at 1-1.
Both sides had late opportunities to snatch a winner. Henrikh Mkhitaryan came close for Inter, while Rafael Leão narrowly missed the target for Milan in the dying moments of the game.
Inter’s Treble Hopes Stay Alive
Serie A leaders Inter are still in the race for a historic treble, with their Champions League quarter-final match against Bayern Munich coming up next Tuesday. They are aiming for their first Coppa Italia title since 2023.
For AC Milan, who currently sit ninth in Serie A, the Coppa Italia remains their best shot at securing a European spot next season. The winner of the tournament earns an automatic place in the Europa League.
