Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made a major change for the rest of the IPL 2025 season — MS Dhoni will once again lead the team as captain. The decision comes after current skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow injury.
How Ruturaj Gaikwad Got Injured
Gaikwad suffered the injury during Super Kings’ match against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati. While attempting an early shot, he missed the ball and was hit directly on the uncovered part of his elbow. Despite the pain, he managed to continue batting and scored 63 runs in that match.
He went on to play two more games — scoring only 5 runs against Delhi Capitals on April 5 and 1 run against Punjab Kings on April 8. However, ahead of Super Kings’ home game against Kolkata Knight Riders, he was officially ruled out of the season.
Big Blow for Struggling CSK
Gaikwad’s injury is a huge setback for Chennai Super Kings, who have had a poor start this season. The team has lost 4 out of their first 5 matches and currently sits in 9th position on the points table, just above Sunrisers Hyderabad.
MS Dhoni to Lead Again
At 43 years old, MS Dhoni will now try to guide the team back on track. Under his leadership, CSK has won the IPL title five times. Fans will be hoping that his experience and calm leadership can turn the season around for Chennai.
