Jakub Mensik, a 19-year-old tennis player from the Czech Republic, won the Miami Open by beating Novak Djokovic. He won in two sets, both ending in a tie-break: 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/4). This is Mensik’s first ATP title. Djokovic, who was trying to win his 100th career title, could not stop him.
Rain Delay and Djokovic’s Eye Problem
The final match was delayed by almost six hours because of heavy rain. When the players finally started, Djokovic had an eye infection, which made things harder for him.
Mensik’s Strong Start
Mensik started the match well, breaking Djokovic’s first service game to take a 2-0 lead. He was playing with power and confidence. Djokovic fought back and broke Mensik’s serve at 4-2, making the score even again.
The set stayed even, leading to a tie-break. Mensik served two aces and took a 5-0 lead. Djokovic tried to come back, but Mensik finished the set with an overhead volley. This was the first set Djokovic lost in the whole tournament.
Close Battle in the Second Set
The second set was very close, with both players holding their serve. Again, the set went to a tie-break, where Mensik’s powerful shots helped him win. Djokovic hit a ball long, and Mensik fell to the ground in celebration.
Record Age Difference in a Final
Djokovic is 37 years old, and Mensik is 19. This is the biggest age difference in a Masters 1000 final. It is also the biggest age gap in any tour-level final since 1976.
