Daniel Craig, who played the iconic James Bond in five films, has shared his thoughts on Amazon’s recent takeover of the 007 franchise. The Skyfall actor spoke highly of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who have been the long-time producers of the Bond films. Craig expressed his admiration and support for the duo after they decided to step back from the franchise.
Craig told Variety, “My respect, admiration, and love for Barbara and Michael remain constant and undiminished.” He added, “I wish Michael a long, relaxing (and well-deserved) retirement, and whatever ventures Barbara goes on to do, I know they will be spectacular. I hope I can be part of them.”
James Bond Franchise Changes Hands: Amazon Takes Creative Control
His comments come after Amazon’s MGM announced a partnership with Broccoli and Wilson to jointly manage the James Bond intellectual property rights. Under this new agreement, all three parties will share ownership of the Bond franchise, but Amazon will have creative control over future Bond projects.
Wilson, who has been a key figure in shaping the Bond films, shared that he is stepping away from producing the movies to focus on his art and charity work. With nearly 60 years in the franchise, Wilson said it’s time to pass the baton. Broccoli, who also contributed significantly to the Bond films, mentioned that with the release of No Time to Die and Michael’s retirement, it felt like the right moment to focus on other projects.
Craig, who retired as Bond after No Time to Die in 2021, expressed his ongoing support for the new direction of the 007 franchise, hopeful that the legacy of Bond will continue in exciting ways.
