James Guy made a successful return to the men’s 400m freestyle event at the 2025 British Swimming Championships, winning the title for the first time since 2018. The six-time Olympic medalist swam a time of 3:46.64 at the London Aquatics Centre on April 15, clinching the national title. His victory came ahead of Tyler Melbourne-Smith (3:49.38) and Jack McMillan (3:50.05), who finished second and third, respectively.
James Guy Comeback to the 400m Freestyle
After a long absence from this distance, James Guy’s win marked an exciting return to the 400m freestyle, the same event where he earned world silver in 2015. His national record time of 3:43.75, set during that race, still stands. Although James Guy’s performance was outside the tough 3:45.73 qualifying standard for the World Championships, he remains pre-selected for the upcoming meet in Singapore due to his Olympic success in the 4×200m freestyle relay at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Personal Bests for MacInnes and Colbert
The first day of the championships also saw strong performances from Keanna MacInnes and Freya Colbert, who both secured personal bests and achieved World Championship qualification times. Their impressive swims have earned them spots in the World Championships in Singapore later this year, adding excitement to an already competitive event.
