Jessica Chastain is diving back into the world of horror, teaming up with some of the genre’s biggest names for a new psychological thriller. As first reported by Deadline, the Academy Award-winning actress is set to star in a feature adaptation of Incidents Around the House, a haunting novel by Bird Box author Josh Malerman.
This chilling new project will be directed by Rob Savage, the rising horror talent behind Host and The Boogeyman, and is being produced by genre powerhouses Atomic Monster, Blumhouse, and Universal Pictures.

The screenplay is penned by Succession writer Nathan Elston and brings Malerman’s eerie story to life. The narrative follows a young girl grappling with strange happenings in her home, haunted by a mysterious figure she ominously calls “Other Mommy.” Though details are being kept tightly under wraps, the film is said to blend psychological horror with emotional family drama, offering a unique twist on traditional haunted house tales.
James Wan, the mastermind behind The Conjuring universe, will produce the film through his Atomic Monster banner, alongside Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, Rob Savage, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis. Alayna Glasthal is overseeing production for Atomic Monster.
This marks a return to horror for Chastain, who previously delivered memorable performances in Mama and It: Chapter Two. While she’s known for her Oscar-winning portrayal in The Eyes of Tammy Faye and standout roles in films like Zero Dark Thirty, Interstellar, and The Martian, Chastain has continued to display remarkable range in both independent cinema and blockbuster hits.
Now, with a powerhouse creative team and an eerie, character-driven story, Incidents Around the House is primed to be a standout in modern horror. Fans of the genre—and of Chastain—will no doubt be eager to see what nightmares await when the film hits the screen.
