Jojo Siwa and Mickey Rourke have made headlines recently due to a series of controversial comments made by Rourke on Big Brother UK about Jojo’s sexuality. The actor’s homophobic remarks towards the singer led to a strong reaction, especially from Jojo’s mother, Jessalyn Siwa, who took to Instagram to express her thoughts on the incident.
Jessalyn shared that she wasn’t surprised Rourke didn’t face any consequences or was sent home following his remarks. She explained that she had a feeling this would happen. Still, she conveyed her sadness about the way Jojo was treated, stating, “I’m sad that I sent my kid – and she is my kid – to a foreign country to participate in a TV show and she was treated like that right away.”
Despite the situation, Jessalyn praised her daughter for how she handled the remarks, with many people telling her that Jojo managed herself well in the face of the comments. While acknowledging that the situation was wrong, Jessalyn expressed relief that Jojo was strong enough to handle the experience. “I’m lucky that Jojo could handle herself and that she’s OK,” she said.
Throughout the season, Jessalyn has been following Jojo’s journey on the live feeds of Big Brother UK. She noted that Jojo seems to be in good spirits, appearing as confident and self-assured as ever. Jessalyn commented on how Jojo, despite facing negativity, continues to be herself. “It’s kind of become a culture. It’s a trend to not like her, to hate her, and make fun of her. Now they want to say, ‘You’ll make her not a lesbian.’ What’s next?” she questioned.
Jessalyn also addressed the surprising number of comments from viewers who claimed to “like” Jojo in her current Big Brother portrayal. She pointed out that this is who Jojo has always been, and it’s frustrating that people are only seeing it now.
In the Big Brother house, Rourke had told Jojo that if she lasted more than four days in the competition, she would no longer be queer. Jojo responded confidently, saying, “I’ll still be gay,” and added that she was in a “very happy relationship” with Kath Ebbs. Rourke later denied using a homophobic slur when speaking with fellow contestant Chris Hughes, but his remarks sparked further outrage.
