K-Pop Demon Hunters Dominates Netflix Worldwide, Blending Glamour with Supernatural Action

The fusion of K-pop glitz and supernatural action has taken the world by storm with Netflix’s latest animated hit, K-Pop Demon Hunters. Released on June 20, the film rocketed to the No. 1 spot globally in Netflix’s film category by June 21, as reported by FlixPatrol.

Set in a stylized version of Korea, the film follows the wildly popular girl group Huntrix, whose members—Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—lead double lives as demon slayers beneath their glittering stage personas. Bursting with dazzling visuals and cultural callbacks, from hanok rooftops to eerie grim reapers and iconic Namsan Tower, the film is a vibrant blend of Korean tradition and high-octane fantasy.

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans and produced by Sony Pictures Animation, K-Pop Demon Hunters masterfully combines global animation aesthetics with the heartbeat of Korean pop culture.

Fans were especially thrilled to hear TWICE’s Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung power the soundtrack with the dynamic original song “Takedown.” The voice cast also adds star power: Ahn Hyo-seop plays the charismatic yet sinister leader of rival boy group Saja Boys, while veteran actor Lee Byung-hun delivers a chilling performance as the demon overlord Gwi-ma, voicing the role in both English and Korean.

As of June 21, the film holds the No. 1 spot in 22 countries, including the U.S., U.K., Japan, South Korea, France, Australia, and more—solidifying its place as a bold new chapter in global storytelling and Korean creative excellence.
