Kakarvitta FTC Advances to Semifinals in Mechinagar Gold Cup

The fifth edition of the Mechinagar Gold Cup has kicked off in Kakarvitta, with hosts Kakarvitta FTC securing a strong start. In the opening match, they defeated Indian side Georgian FC 4-2 to book a place in the semifinals.

Match Recap

Georgian FC took the lead in the 28th minute when Satyam Sharma converted a free kick after Kakarvitta’s Sanjay Limbu fouled Kunjaman Thapa. However, Kakarvitta FTC equalized in first-half injury time through Nishan Limbu, who scored from the penalty spot after a foul inside the Georgian box.

In the second half, Kakarvitta FTC dominated the game. Their foreign player Ibrahim gave them the lead in the 50th minute with a brilliant header from captain Khamir Gilson Kandangwa’s pass. Nishan Limbu added his second goal in the 61st minute to extend their advantage, while Robert netted the fourth goal in the 65th minute.

Georgian FC managed to pull one back in injury time through Satyam Sharma, but it was not enough to prevent defeat.

Man of the Match

Nishan Limbu was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance, scoring two goals. He received NPR 11,000 and a trophy as his award.

Tournament Rewards

The tournament winner will receive NPR 1 million along with a trophy, while the runner-up will get NPR 500,000. Additionally, the best player of the tournament will be awarded NPR 51,000, the top scorer will receive NPR 25,000, and the best coach and goalkeeper will each earn NPR 21,000. An emerging player award of NPR 11,000 will also be presented.

The tournament is being held at the Kakarvitta FTC ground and will run until March 14. It was inaugurated by Koshi Province Chief Whip and Provincial Assembly Member Gopal Tamang, with various political and social figures in attendance.
