Kalam The Missile Man of India — First Poster Released! Dhanush to Star as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

A monumental cinematic tribute to one of India’s most revered figures, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, is officially underway. Titled Wings of Fire, the biopic will chronicle the extraordinary life of India’s 11th President and beloved “Missile Man,” from humble beginnings in Rameswaram to the grandeur of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

National Award-winning director Om Raut, known for helming the epic Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, will direct the film. At the heart of this ambitious project is actor Dhanush, a powerhouse performer with both national acclaim and global recognition. The acclaimed actor is set to take on the formidable role of Dr. Kalam, marking what many anticipate to be one of the most defining performances of his career.

The announcement, made on the international stage of the Cannes Film Festival, signals the makers’ intention to craft not just a film, but a globally resonant legacy project. When Raut and Dhanush first met to discuss the film, they immediately recognized the immense magnitude and emotional weight of the journey they were about to undertake.

The biopic is being produced by Abhishek Agarwal (of The Kashmir Files fame) under Abhishek Agarwal Arts, in collaboration with Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, known for backing some of Indian cinema’s biggest projects. The screenplay is penned by Saiwyn Quadras, acclaimed for his work on Neerja, Maidaan, and Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran—each noted for their grounded, inspirational storytelling.

At its core, the film seeks to delve into the lesser-known dimensions of Dr. Kalam’s persona—the poet, the philosopher, the teacher, and the eternal optimist. While the narrative will of course cover his groundbreaking contributions to India’s defense and aerospace sectors, the filmmakers emphasize a focus on Kalam’s ideals of leadership, innovation, humility, and his deep-rooted spirituality.

“This is more than a political biography—it’s a soul-stirring tale of a dreamer whose vision shaped a nation,” said director Om Raut. “Dr. Kalam transcended politics and identity. He belonged to every Indian, and to every youth who dreams with purpose.”

Raut added, “Bringing this story to life is not just a creative endeavor, but a cultural duty. In an age lacking true statesmanship, Kalam’s story becomes even more essential. It’s a lesson in how science, compassion, and integrity can come together to build a better future.”

Producer Abhishek Agarwal expressed deep emotion about the project. “Dr. Kalam’s journey is not just inspirational—it’s transformative. I am proud to be part of this homage to a true Bharat Ratna. With Om Raut’s vision and Dhanush’s unmatched ability to inhabit roles, we’re aiming to craft a cinematic experience that resonates across continents.”

Echoing this sentiment, Bhushan Kumar remarked, “This is more than just a film—it’s a tribute to a life that continues to inspire generations. Collaborating again with Om Raut and joining hands with Dhanush and Abhishek Agarwal makes this an incredibly special project. We are committed to honoring Dr. Kalam’s legacy in the most powerful way possible.”

Despite the secrecy surrounding further production details, anticipation is rapidly building across Indian and international film communities. With Om Raut’s flair for epic storytelling, Dhanush’s chameleon-like range, and a seasoned production team behind it, Wings of Fire is set to become a landmark in biographical cinema.

As the world watches, this cinematic homage promises to go beyond the screen—offering not just the story of a man, but the spirit of a movement. In telling Dr. Kalam’s story, the film seeks to reignite the idea that dreams—when backed by hard work, science, and soul—can indeed shape a nation.
