Recently, in an exclusive vlog, Sidhu opened up about his special bond with Kapil Sharma and revealed some surprising facts about how Kapil got his big break.
Sidhu Claims He Played a Key Role in Kapil Sharma’s Success
Navjot Singh Sidhu shared that Kapil Sharma approached him years ago with a special request. According to Sidhu, Kapil did not have a strong identity or recognition before the show. It was Sidhu who helped Kapil get his own independent comedy show about 13 years ago.
Sidhu said, “Kapil Sharma became popular after appearing in shows like ‘Laughter Challenge’ and ‘Comedy Circus,’ but he didn’t have his own identity. After I participated in ‘Bigg Boss,’ Kapil came to me and said, ‘Paji, I have a request. If you agree to be part of my show, they will give me an independent show.’ I asked who ‘they’ were, and he told me it was Raj Nayak, who was the head of Colors TV then. Raj wanted me to be a judge to boost the channel’s TRP. We met for breakfast and I agreed.”
Bringing Dharmendra as the First Guest Boosted the Show’s Popularity
Sidhu also revealed that he was the one who brought legendary actor Dharmendra as the very first guest on Kapil’s show, which significantly increased its TRP ratings. He added that he regularly gave Kapil ideas to improve the show’s format and presentation.
He said, “When we started the show, there were no guests initially. I suggested bringing Dharmendra, and when he appeared sharing stories from his film career, the TRP shot up. Due to political reasons, I had to leave the show, but ever since then, fans have missed my presence and asked me to return.”
‘The Great Indian Kapil Show 3’ to Stream on Netflix from June 21
The third season of ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ will premiere on the OTT platform Netflix from June 21. Besides Navjot Singh Sidhu and Kapil Sharma, the show will feature Archana Puran Singh, Krishna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Sunil Grover, and Rajiv Thakur.
The recently released teaser of the show has already received a great response from fans eager to see their favorite comedians back in action.
