The Koshi Province Sports Development Board has dissolved all 14 district branches of the Karate Federation Koshi Province just 18 days after forming a new ad-hoc committee.
Ad-hoc Committee Formed After Dismissing Previous Leadership
On Baisakh 24, Board’s member secretary Krishna Basnet dismissed the existing provincial committee led by Kuber Man Rai. In its place, he appointed Prabhakar Rana (Rikki) as the coordinator of a new 11-member ad-hoc committee.
Board Declares All District Karate Bodies Invalid
Issuing a notice on Jestha 12, the Board declared the dissolution of all district branches of Karate Federation Nepal operating in Koshi Province. It stated that forming district-level “mahasangh” (federation) units was against the legal provisions.
Instead, it instructed all district sports development committees to register only as “sangh” (association), not as federations, and notified them through official letters.
Karate Federation Koshi Province Protests Strongly
The move has sparked outrage. The officially registered Karate Federation Koshi Province, still led by Kuber Man Rai, condemned the formation of the ad-hoc committee, calling it illegal and one-sided.
On Baisakh 28, Nepal Karate Federation officially recognized Rai’s committee, further intensifying the legitimacy crisis.
Demand to Cancel Basnet’s Committee
The Koshi Province committee has demanded the immediate cancellation of the 11-member ad-hoc committee, accusing Krishna Basnet of abusing his power and violating organizational procedures.
They insist that a legitimate committee is already in place and should be allowed to operate without interference.
