Karisma Kapoor’s Ex-Husband Sunjay Kapur Dies of Heart Attack in UK

Industrialist Sunjay Kapur, former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away after suffering a massive heart attack while playing polo in the United Kingdom. He was reportedly on the field when he collapsed. An official statement from the Kapur family is still awaited.

The 52-year-old was the Chairman of Sona Comstar Ltd., a leading global automotive technology company. Known for his passion for polo, Kapur was a regular presence in elite sports and business circles.

Tragically, just six hours before news of his death emerged, Sunjay had taken to social media to express grief over the Ahmedabad to London flight crash. In what would be his final tweet, he wrote, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”

Personal Life & Legacy

Sunjay Kapur married Karisma Kapoor in 2003. The couple had two children—daughter Samaira (born in 2005) and son Kiaan (born in 2011)—before divorcing in 2016. Karisma has since been raising the children as a single parent.

Following the divorce, Sunjay found love again with model and entrepreneur Priya Sachdev. The two met in New York and tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Delhi after five years of dating. The couple welcomed a son, Azarias Kapur.

In a past interview, Priya spoke warmly about Sunjay’s relationship with his children. “Sanjay is an amazing human being and a very good father to his children. He loves them dearly,” she said, adding that both had always ensured their children never harbored negativity toward their ex-partners.

Reflecting on their relationship, she shared, “He makes me smile. Sanjay has brought security and stability to my life. During the flight, we realised that neither of us was what our public perception had been made out to be. The barrier of those misconceptions came down and we kept in touch.”

Sunjay Kapur leaves behind a legacy of business leadership, a passion for polo, and a life marked by both public scrutiny and personal evolution.
