The Karnali Province government has announced a public holiday on Asar 15 (June 29) to mark National Paddy Day. However, the holiday will apply to only 9 out of 10 districts, excluding Jumla.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law shared that the decision was based on a cabinet meeting held earlier on Chaitra 17, 2081. The holiday will apply to all government and public institutions in the selected districts.
So why is Jumla excluded? Unlike most other areas, Jumla celebrates paddy planting season much earlier—in the month of Chaitra. Due to its unique climate and agricultural cycle, the province already grants a local holiday in Jumla on Chaitra 12 every year.
On National Paddy Day, the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives usually organizes formal events and celebrations across the province—excluding Jumla, where the season has already passed.
