Kate Cassidy Opens Up About Grief After Liam Payne’s Death

Kate Cassidy, Liam Payne’s girlfriend, has shared her struggles following the death of her former partner. In an emotional interview on Lorraine Kelly’s ITV talk show, Kate revealed that she sometimes finds it difficult to get out of bed, especially after the loss of Liam, who tragically passed away in October last year at the age of 31.

Kate, who had been linked to Liam since 2022, spoke about how she’s been coping with the grief. She expressed that Liam had been “so open about his mental health” and said she felt a deep responsibility to continue his work by supporting the March4March mental health campaign. “I genuinely believe Liam guided me to this campaign,” Kate said. “I am on a healing journey, and sometimes it’s hard, but I have a responsibility to get out of bed each day, even if it’s just for a quick walk with my dog, Nala.”

She admitted that healing has been challenging, especially in coming to terms with Liam’s passing. “It’s hard to refer to him in the past tense, and when I do, it just feels more official, and that stings,” she shared, becoming emotional. “I’m still working on accepting that he’s not here anymore.”

Kate fondly remembered Liam as “one of a kind,” recalling his infectious sense of humor and how he could light up any room. She expressed her desire to help others going through grief, adding, “I want to help people feel less alone in their healing process.”

Kate also spoke about the significance of the number four, which she and Liam had seen as a symbol of support and guidance. “It’s still so special, and every time I see it, I know he’s there with me,” she said.

Liam’s death occurred while Kate had returned to the U.S. from Argentina, where she had been staying with him. Liam was remembered at the Brit Awards, where One Direction won seven awards. The singer’s family also requested privacy as they continue to cope with his passing.

Kate, who had joined Liam’s family at his private funeral last year, had previously shared a note from Liam about plans to propose, which made the loss even more painful.

Liam had openly discussed his struggles with mental health and addiction, speaking about hitting “rock bottom” during One Direction’s peak and later seeking rehab. He had been sober for nearly six months before his tragic death.
