Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced the launch of a long-term initiative called the ‘Zero Waste City’ campaign to address the dual challenges of climate crisis and waste management.
Mayor Shah Unveils Policy and Programs
Speaking at the municipal assembly on Sunday, Mayor Balen Shah outlined the key components of the campaign. The major strategies include:
- Waste segregation at the source
- Waste-to-energy production
- Establishment of community reuse centers
- Implementation of the urban forest concept
Emphasis on Eco-Friendly Technology
According to the Metropolitan City’s new policies and programs, traditional waste management methods will be upgraded using environmentally friendly technologies. The city will also launch awareness campaigns to educate citizens on:
- Waste classification
- Reuse and recycling
- Responsible consumption habits
