The Khudi Bazaar junction in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality–9 of Lamjung has been named ‘Samba Chowk’ in honor of Sabitra Bhandari (Samba), a prominent player of the Nepal women’s national football team and the Nepal APF Club, and also an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Armed Police Force.
According to DSP Shailendra Thapa, the deputy spokesperson of the Armed Police Force, a ‘Samba Pillar’ featuring Sabitra’s portrait has also been constructed at the location.
Sabitra Bhandari (Samba), who plays for the Nepal APF Club and serves as an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Armed Police Force, is a renowned footballer not only in Nepal but also internationally. She is currently associated with En Avant Guingamp, a top-division football club in France.
The Samba Pillar was inaugurated today (Jestha 5) by Arjun Gurung, Chairperson of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality.
The inauguration event was attended by key figures including Chief District Officer of Lamjung, Madhav Prasad Pokharel, Ward Chairperson of Marsyangdi-9 Harish Chandra Thapa, the commander of the Lamjung-based Armed Police Battalion, and other local residents.
Additionally, the event included a special recognition of Sabitra Bhandari’s parents for their support and contribution.
