While Kriti Sanon‘s name had long been linked as a strong contender to portray the legendary actress Meena Kumari on screen, fresh updates suggest that Kiara Advani might be the one to ultimately take on this iconic role. According to insiders, Kiara has been approached with the script and reportedly loved the narration she received.
Sources reveal that Kiara Advani was recently given a detailed narration for the ambitious project. Though she has yet to officially confirm her participation, the film’s team is optimistic, believing Kiara’s blend of talent and resemblance makes her an ideal fit to bring Meena Kumari’s story to life.
Meena Kumari, originally named Mahjabeen Bano, is remembered as one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated actresses and an icon of tragic roles. Known as the “Tragedy Queen,” she delivered memorable performances in classics such as Baiju Bawra, Parineeta, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Kaajal, and Pakeezah. Over a prolific career spanning nearly two decades, Meena Kumari earned four Filmfare Best Actress awards before her untimely demise at the age of 38.
The biopic’s rights have been secured by Sidharth P. Malhotra in collaboration with music label Saregama and the Amrohi family. Kamal Amrohi’s family, Meena Kumari’s husband and acclaimed filmmaker, is actively supporting this official adaptation, adding authenticity and generating considerable excitement around the project.
Kiara Advani’s Career and Personal Milestones
Should Kiara officially sign on, this role could mark her first major film post-pregnancy. She and her husband, Sidharth Malhotra, announced their pregnancy earlier this year in February. While they have kept the baby’s due date private, it is expected around this coming winter.
