Kim Eana, a well-known South Korean lyricist and radio DJ, is facing backlash for her recent interview with rookie co-ed K-pop group ALLDAY PROJECT on MBC FM4U’s Kim Eana’s Starry Night, aired on July 16 (KST).

The group — Annie, Tarzzan, Bailey, Youngseo, and Woochan — appeared on the show to promote their debut tracks “FAMOUS” and “WICKED.” But what was meant to be a celebratory moment turned awkward as parts of the interview drew criticism for being uncomfortable and condescending.

Kim opened with a pointed remark: “It’s only been 24 days since your debut. Isn’t the response too fast? That won’t make you arrogant, right?” She then asked, “Isn’t it hard being in a co-ed group?”—a comment that some online users felt leaned into outdated stereotypes.

One particular exchange sparked concern when Annie shared her motto, “This too shall pass,” to which Kim replied, “Are you saying you want this radio show to end soon?” The joke didn’t land well, leaving both members and fans visibly uneasy.

Kim also challenged member Tarzzan’s self-introduction as the “troublemaker” of the group, saying, “Have you actually caused any trouble? If not, you’re not really one.”

Following the broadcast, social media users criticized Kim’s tone, with comments like:

  • “It felt like a job interview.”
  • “She didn’t seem to know anything about the group.”
  • “Even the compliments came off as backhanded.”

Fans noted that the group looked nervous and uncomfortable throughout the appearance.

ALLDAY PROJECT debuted in June and quickly gained attention—partly due to member Annie being the daughter of Shinsegae Group Chairwoman Chung Yoo Kyung. Despite the “chaebol idol” label, the group has been working hard to make a name for themselves on their own merit.

The controversy has sparked wider discussions about how veteran media figures should treat new artists, especially during their early career stages when support and encouragement matter most.
