Even while serving in the South Korean military, BTS‘ Kim Taehyung—widely known as V—is continuing to touch hearts and inspire those around him. Since enlisting in December 2023, Taehyung has shown not just physical strength but also an admirable level of compassion and camaraderie that’s making a lasting impact on his fellow soldiers.
Recently, a touching story surfaced on Instagram from one of Taehyung’s military comrades, who revealed how the idol became an unexpected mentor and source of inspiration. The soldier, who goes by the username @win._.min_223, shared a moving message expressing his gratitude for Taehyung’s encouragement and the positive influence he had throughout their time in service together.
Despite dealing with injuries to his shoulder and thighs, Taehyung didn’t just keep up with rigorous training—he excelled. The soldier proudly recalled how Taehyung ranked first in target shooting and winter urban warfare drills, achievements that earned him the Military Police Exemplary Award. His unwavering determination, even while injured, left a deep impression.
“Even with his injuries, he never gave up,” the soldier wrote. “He showed what true strength looks like—not just physically, but mentally too.”
Beyond his accomplishments in training, it was Taehyung’s kindness and everyday actions that truly touched his comrade’s heart. He fondly described how they once pushed each other through a 3km run, helping each other qualify for the elite class. The memory stood out as one of the most meaningful moments of his military experience.
The soldier also mentioned Taehyung’s generosity, recalling how he often treated him to tasty food, including an unforgettable eel sushi meal. Whether it was buying meals at the PX or donating workout equipment to improve their training environment, Taehyung always found ways to make others feel supported.
Perhaps the most profound impact was the way Taehyung inspired his fellow soldier to pursue a meaningful career. “Thanks to his consistency and passion, I’ve decided to chase my dream of becoming a rehabilitation therapist,” the soldier wrote. “Even after discharge, I’m more motivated than ever.”
Taehyung, moved by the heartfelt post, responded with his signature warmth:
“Haha, don’t give up on becoming a rehab trainer, player. Make your dream come true, and be sure to come find me. I’ll be waiting.”

Kim Taehyung is currently serving alongside fellow BTS members RM, Suga, Jimin, and Jungkook, all of whom are expected to be discharged by June 2025. Meanwhile, Jin and J-Hope completed their service last year. Despite his military duties, Taehyung has stayed connected with fans through music, releasing digital singles like Winter Ahead and Fri(end)s in 2024.
