Bollywood actress Kirti Kulhari is busy promoting her latest film Hisaab Barabar, but recently shared an interesting anecdote regarding her decision to cut her hair short. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kirti reflected on how her Instagram post showcasing her new haircut led to speculation about her sexuality.
Kirti explained that her decision to chop off her hair wasn’t about setting a trend but was simply a personal choice that felt right for her. She revealed that many women reached out to her, expressing how her new look inspired them to make the same change. She was amazed by the impact such a simple act had on people.
However, Kirti also addressed the judgments and societal expectations tied to appearance, particularly how family and society view women’s haircuts. She recalled a comment that stood out to her: “After I finished shooting for Hisaab Barabar, I went home and cut my hair. That’s when I started receiving comments suggesting that people thought I might come out as a lesbian. They said, ‘She’s going to announce it soon, just because of her hair.’ It struck me how people’s assumptions about someone’s sexuality are so tied to something as trivial as a haircut.”
Kirti found this reaction amusing, pointing out how others interpret her actions through their own biases and lenses.
On the professional front, Kirti Kulhari made her Bollywood debut with Khichdi: The Movie in 2010. She gained recognition through films like Shaitan and Pink, and later starred in the successful Uri: The Surgical Strike and Mission Mangal. Kirti was also a fan favorite in the web series Four More Shots Please!.
Her new film, Hisaab Barabar, also starring R. Madhavan and Neil Nitin Mukesh, follows a railway ticket checker who uncovers corruption through minor bank discrepancies. Directed by Ashwni Dhir, the movie is now available for streaming on ZEE5.
