Nepal’s badminton umpiring duo, Kritan Khadka and Mandira Nyaupane, have earned significant promotions from Badminton Asia, marking a proud moment for the country’s badminton community.

Kritan Khadka Advances to Certified Umpire

Kritan Khadka was promoted from an Accredited Umpire to a Certified Umpire after passing a rigorous umpiring exam held during the Badminton Asia Championships 2025 in Ningbo, China, this April. Kritan’s outstanding performance in the exam highlights Nepal’s growing strength in international badminton officiating.

Along with Kritan, Nepal now has three Certified Umpires, including Deepak Thapa and Om Bikram Rana.

Mandira Nyaupane Becomes Second Female Accredited Umpire from Nepal

Mandira Nyaupane, who works with the Armed Police Force, has also progressed in her umpiring career. She successfully cleared the Regional Umpire exam during the South Asian Junior Championship hosted in Nepal.

Further, in July 2024, Mandira passed the Accredited Umpire exam held during the Asia Junior Championship in Indonesia, becoming Nepal’s second female Accredited Umpire. The first was Saman Iqbal from Banke, who set the precedent by becoming the country’s first Accredited Female Badminton Umpire.

Nepal now boasts three Accredited Umpires: Mandira Nyaupane, Saman Iqbal, and Sumit Shakya.

This progress underlines Nepal’s commitment to raising its standards in badminton officiating on the Asian stage and inspiring more officials to reach higher certification levels.
