In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kubbra Sait was asked about the strength it took for her to undergo an abortion and defy societal expectations. The actor, however, shared that at the time, she didn’t feel strong but rather overwhelmed and unable to talk about it with anyone. Kubbra had first opened up about her abortion in her book, Open Book: Not Quite a Memoir.
Responding to the host’s praise for her strength, Kubbra said, “When I went through the abortion, I didn’t feel strong at all. I felt weak, unable to face the consequences of not going through with it. I felt hollow and unworthy.” She admitted that it was only much later that she realized there was strength in her decision, as she had defied stereotypical patterns.
Kubbra also revealed that she kept the experience to herself, not confiding in friends or even the director of the travel show she was hosting at the time. “No one knew about it. I went through it alone. It wasn’t until weeks later, when I spoke to a friend, that it truly hit me,” she said. “I started crying because I realized I hadn’t told anyone about it.”
She continued, sharing that years later, while shooting for her show, she would experience physical discomfort due to her heavy bleeding but still didn’t open up to those around her. It wasn’t until she wrote about the experience in her memoir that she understood the importance of being kind to herself and sharing her story.
Kubbra’s recent work includes her role in Deva, alongside Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde, and she will soon appear in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. After gaining recognition for her role in the 2018 Netflix series Sacred Games, she has since appeared in shows like Waqalat From Home, Farzi, The Trial, and Shehar Lakhot.
