The movie Laaj Sharanam, released nationwide on Wednesday for the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, has made a strong debut at the domestic box office.
According to the distribution company Bankatesh Entertainment, the film earned a gross opening of NPR 11 million (1 crore 10 lakh) on its first day. Distributor Manoj Rathi told OnlineKhabar, “This is a blockbuster opening after a long time.”
The film, produced by JPT Creation, was released in 200 theaters on Wednesday. “It has been a long time since a Nepali film opened this well. Even films released during Dashain took a few days to earn good collections,” said Rathi.
Although there was a slight drop in audience numbers on Thursday, Rathi expects the film to perform well again on Friday and Saturday due to public holidays. He predicted that Laaj Sharanam would easily cross NPR 20 million (2 crores) by the weekend.
Before its release, the film had already sold advance tickets worth NPR 1.5 million (15 lakh). Meanwhile, the collections for the other two movies released on the same day, Mayavi and Feri Resham Filili, have not been revealed yet.
