Lady Gaga has added a new accolade to her impressive career—she is now an Emmy winner. The acclaimed singer and actress took home a Sports Emmy Award for her powerful Super Bowl performance of “Hold My Hand.” Gaga was honored in the Outstanding Music Direction category for her heartfelt rendition of the “Top Gun: Maverick” anthem, performed on Bourbon Street in New Orleans as a tribute to the victims of the New Year’s attack.
Her emotional performance featured Gaga at the piano, accompanied by a full band and choir, with Louisiana State Police troopers, New Orleans police officers, first responders, and other law enforcement officials seated prominently in the front row. The tribute also included a special appearance by former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
This Emmy win marks a significant milestone for Gaga, bringing her just one award shy of the prestigious EGOT status—a rare achievement that involves winning an Emmy, Grammy, Academy Award (Oscar), and Tony Award. Having already secured an Oscar and multiple Grammys, the only missing piece in her EGOT quest is a Tony Award, which recognizes excellence in theater.
The EGOT concept was first coined in the 1980s by actor Philip Michael Thomas, who famously aimed to win all four awards within five years—though he never received a nomination. Since then, the elite club of EGOT winners has grown to 18 performers, including legends like Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, Viola Davis, and Elton John. Notable figures who remain just one award away from joining this exclusive group include Helen Mirren, Hugh Jackman, Eminem, Kate Winslet, and Martin Scorsese.
With this latest achievement, Lady Gaga moves closer than ever to joining the ranks of entertainment’s most celebrated multi-award winners.
