Kylian Mbappe played the hero as Real Madrid came from behind to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over relegation-threatened Leganes on Saturday. The win sees the defending champions move level on points in LaLiga with leaders Barcelona, who will face Girona on Sunday.

With the win, Real Madrid now have 63 points from 29 matches, matching Barcelona’s tally at the top of the table. Atletico Madrid, in third place, drew 1-1 at Espanyol earlier in the day and are now six points behind both top sides with 57 points.

Match Recap

Real Madrid made a strong start to the game and took the lead in the 32nd minute through a calm penalty from Mbappe. The penalty came after Leganes’ Óscar Rodríguez fouled Arda Güler inside the box. However, the visitors responded quickly. Just a minute later, Diego Garcia tapped in a loose ball to equalize, and then Dani Raba put Leganes ahead with a cool finish just before halftime.

But Madrid wasn’t done. Two minutes into the second half, Jude Bellingham leveled the score, finishing off a rebound after a shot hit the crossbar.

Real Madrid: Mbappe Thoughts

“It was a difficult match,” Mbappe said after the game. “After the international break, it’s always tough to get back to top form. But we know we always have to win, and that’s what we did.” The French star also reflected on his winning free kick, saying, “We had worked on set pieces with the staff a few weeks ago, and I knew I had a chance. I asked the others to let me take it, and I’m glad it worked.”

Leganes’ Effort

Despite pushing hard for an equalizer, Leganes, who are battling relegation, fell short and suffered a third consecutive defeat. They now sit 18th in the table with 27 points, level with Alaves in 17th place. Leganes’ striker Diego Garcia praised his team’s performance, saying, “We fought until the end, but it came down to small details. We played a serious game, and now we must focus on next week.”
