Leica has launched a new photo filter called Artist Look in its Leica Lux camera app for iPhones. The first Artist Look is based on the work of famous British photographer Greg Williams, allowing users to turn their iPhone photos into black-and-white images with a warm, vintage tone.
What Makes the Greg Williams Filter Special?
This filter is inspired by the classic Kodak Tri-X film. It slightly softens the whites and adds a warm look, mimicking Greg Williams’ signature style. This is the first time Leica has worked with a professional photographer to offer a personalized preset in the Lux app.
Who Can Use the Greg Williams Look?
To access this new Artist Look, users need a Lux Pro subscription, which costs $6.99/month or $69.99/year. It’s also available for free if you purchase Leica’s $625 phone grip. The feature is included in the 1.7 update of the Leica Lux app on the iOS App Store.
What is the Leica Lux App?
The Leica Lux app lets iPhone users take pictures using Leica’s well-known color science and lens-inspired effects. The app includes filters like Classic, Chrome, and a vintage one based on the Leica I Model A camera. It also offers virtual “lens” effects that simulate Leica’s famous portrait lenses, like the 50mm Noctilux and 35mm Summilux.
Apply the Filter on Your Leica Camera Too
The Leica Fotos app is also getting an update. Owners of newer cameras like the Leica Q3 and SL3 series can now download the Greg Williams look directly onto their cameras. Even if your camera is older, you can still use the filter on JPG photos via Wi-Fi and the Fotos app, without any extra cost.
