RB Leipzig has parted ways with head coach Marco Rose following a string of disappointing results that have left the team fighting for a Champions League qualification spot. The club also dismissed his coaching staff, including Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth, and Frank Geideck, as well as first-team soccer director Frank Aehlig.
The decision came after a 1-0 defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, marking Leipzig’s sixth consecutive away match without a win and their third straight match without scoring. This loss dropped them to sixth place in the Bundesliga, and they risk falling to seventh if Freiburg earns a point against Union Berlin.
Only the top four teams in the Bundesliga secure Champions League spots, and Leipzig’s recent poor form has left them in a precarious position. In addition to domestic struggles, They had a disappointing Champions League campaign, winning just one of their eight matches this season.
Sporting director Marcel Schäfer explained the decision, stating, “Given the development and the continued lack of results, we believe it’s necessary to bring in new energy for the rest of the season in order to meet our objectives.”
Leipzig will now look to find a spark under new leadership as they prepare for Wednesday’s German Cup semifinal against Stuttgart.
