Liverpool took another step toward winning the Premier League by beating Everton 1-0 in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday. Diogo Jota scored the only goal in the 57th minute after a pass from Luis Diaz. This win puts Liverpool 12 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with just eight games left.

The victory was important for Liverpool, who had lost their last two games—one in the League Cup final against Newcastle and the other in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. Coach Arne Slot was happy with the result, saying, “As long as the players give everything, we are in a very good position.”

Manchester City Wins Against Leicester

Manchester City also had a successful night, winning 2-0 against Leicester. City played without their star striker Erling Haaland, who is out for seven weeks due to an ankle injury.

City scored in the second minute when Jack Grealish finished a move created by Jeremy Doku and Savinho. They doubled their lead in the 29th minute when Omar Marmoush took advantage of a mistake by Leicester’s goalkeeper.

With this win, City moved to fourth place, one point ahead of Newcastle and two points ahead of Chelsea.

Newcastle Continues Winning Form

Newcastle continued their strong performance after winning the League Cup by beating Brentford 2-1. Alexander Isak gave Newcastle the lead just before halftime, but Brentford equalized through Bryan Mbeumo’s penalty in the 66th minute. However, Sandro Tonali’s goal in the 74th minute secured the win for Newcastle.

Aston Villa Stays in the Champions League Race

Aston Villa won 3-0 against Brighton to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Marcus Rashford scored in the 51st minute, Marco Asensio added another in the 78th minute, and Donyell Malen completed the win in added time. Villa is now in seventh place, just two points behind Newcastle.

Southampton Struggles to Avoid Relegation

Southampton remains in danger of setting the worst-ever Premier League record after a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace. Paul Onuachu gave Southampton the lead, but Matheus Franca scored in stoppage time for Palace. Southampton is still at the bottom of the table, 19 points away from safety.

If Southampton loses to Tottenham and Wolves beat Ipswich this weekend, they will be relegated.

Ipswich Keeps Survival Hopes Alive

Ipswich kept their chances of avoiding relegation alive with a 2-1 win against Bournemouth. Nathan Broadhead and Liam Delap scored for Ipswich, while Evanilson got one goal back for Bournemouth. Ipswich is still nine points away from safety but remains hopeful.

Liverpool is now very close to winning their first league title since 2020, while the race for Champions League spots and the fight to avoid relegation continue to bring excitement to the season.
