Luka Modrić to Join AC Milan After Club World Cup

Croatian football star Luka Modrić is set to join Italian club AC Milan after the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

AC Milan’s head coach, Massimiliano Allegri, confirmed the news during his first press conference since returning to the club. He said, “Modrić will arrive in Milan in August. He is an exceptional player.”

Modrić, 39, had already announced in May that he would leave Real Madrid after the Club World Cup. He has spent 13 successful years with the Spanish club since joining from Tottenham in 2012.

During the current tournament, Modrić has appeared five times as a substitute, including in Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund. Real Madrid is set to face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the semifinals.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has won 28 trophies with Real Madrid, including 6 UEFA Champions League titles and 4 La Liga championships.

It is believed that Modrić wants to continue playing top-level football in order to boost his chances of representing Croatia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
