Lumbini Province’s Chief Minister, Chet Narayan Acharya, emphasized that sports have recently become a key tool for promoting the country’s image. During the opening of the Prime Minister Cup Cricket Tournament in Lamahi on Sunday, he also mentioned that sports contribute to strengthening the economy, with the government being open to increasing investments in this sector.

This year, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has chosen Lumbini Province to host the prestigious one-day men’s national cricket tournament, which Acharya believes will help promote local tourism.

Chatur Bahadur Chand, the central chairperson of CAN, explained that moving the event outside Kathmandu is a strategy to draw the government’s attention to the need for better sports infrastructure across the country.

The tournament will take place in three venues: Deukhuri Cricket Stadium, Siddhartha Stadium, and Tilottama Extratech Oval Cricket Stadium. Ten teams, including seven provincial teams and three departmental teams, are competing.
