Machhindra Club continued their strong run, securing a quarter-final spot in the 24th Aaha-Rara Gold Cup with a commanding 2-0 win over Armed Police Force (APF) Club at Pokhara Stadium on Wednesday.

After a goalless first half, Machhindra found their rhythm in the second, breaking through APF’s defense. Aditya Shakya, who came on as a substitute in the 67th minute, made an instant impact by scoring in the 74th minute. Latching onto a long ball from Ayush Ghalan, he skillfully weaved past defenders before firing a low shot into the net.

The lead was doubled in the 81st minute when Cameroonian forward Stephen Kamaha capitalized on a free kick from Devendra Tamang. APF’s goalkeeper Anjal Shrestha mistimed his jump, allowing Kamaha to head the ball home and put the result beyond doubt.

This victory was particularly sweet for Machhindra, as it avenged their semi-final loss to APF in the 20th edition of the tournament, where APF had gone on to lift the trophy. However, despite their strong performances in recent years, Machhindra are still chasing their first-ever Aaha-Rara Gold Cup title.

With this win, Machhindra now set up a quarter-final clash against Three Star Club on February 9. Three Star had a direct entry into the last eight.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Nepal Police Club secured a 1-0 victory over hosts Sahara Club on Tuesday to book their quarter-final spot against Brigade Boys UK on February 8. New Road Team and Church Boys United are set to face off on Thursday, while Tribhuvan Army Club and Black Bulls FC Uzbekistan have already reached the last eight due to byes.
