Machhindra FC has secured a spot in the semifinals of the KP Oli Cup Championship after a hard-fought victory against Bhutan’s FC Transport United in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
In the match held at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, Machhindra edged past Transport United with a narrow 1-0 win. The decisive goal came in the 80th minute when Stephane Zamaha Zali found the net from a cross by Sanish Shrestha. Despite being surrounded by four to five defenders, Zali showed great skill and composure to turn with the ball and finish with precision.
Machhindra dominated the game with continuous attacks, but Transport Unitedโs goalkeeper put in an excellent performance, making several crucial saves. However, he couldn’t stop Zali’s well-placed shot in the dying moments of the match.
For his crucial assist, Sanish Shrestha was named the Man of the Match and received a cash prize of NPR 15,000.
With this victory, Machhindra will now face the tournament hosts, KP FC, in the semifinal clash. Earlier in the day, Sankata Club also booked their place in the semifinals after defeating APF.
The KP Oli Cup Championship, organized by the National Youth Association Nepal, features a total of nine teams competing for the title.
