Punya Bahadur Shrestha, a 28-year-old resident of Damak Municipality–1 in Jhapa, died while in police custody at the District Police Office in Morang. He had been arrested on May 28 (Jestha 15) on charges of public misconduct and suspected drug use.
Health Complications Before Death
According to DSP Ved Prakash Joshi, Shrestha was admitted to Koshi Hospital after developing a fever, stomach pain, and breathing difficulties. Unfortunately, he passed away during treatment on Tuesday, June 3 (Jestha 20).
Repeat Offender With Prior Cases
Police stated that Shrestha was a known drug user and had faced legal action three times under the Narcotics Act and once for public misconduct. In his most recent arrest, he was allegedly caught attempting to steal a bicycle.
