English giants Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur recorded impressive wins in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinals. United dominated Bilbao 3-0 at home, while Spurs secured a 3-1 victory over Bodo/Glimt.
Manchester United vs Bilbao: Bruno Fernandes Shines
Manchester United outclassed Spanish side Athletic Bilbao with a 3-0 win at home. Casemiro got the scoring started in the 30th minute. Bilbao’s Dani Vivian was shown a red card five minutes later, which shifted the game in United’s favor. Bruno Fernandes capitalized with a penalty goal in the 37th minute and added another just before halftime. United couldn’t score in the second half but comfortably held their lead. With the second leg at Old Trafford on May 8, they are in a commanding position.
Spurs 3-1 Bodo/Glimt: Strong Start at Home
Tottenham made a fast start at home against Norway’s Bodo/Glimt. Brennan Johnson scored in the very first minute, followed by a 34th-minute goal from James Maddison. Dominic Solanke made it 3-0 in the 61st minute from the spot. Although Bodo/Glimt got one back in the 83rd minute through Ulrik Saltnes, Spurs take a solid 3-1 lead into the second leg, set for May 8 in Norway.
