Popular Telugu folk singer Mangli has landed in legal trouble after hosting a birthday celebration at a private resort in Chevella, near Hyderabad, allegedly without obtaining necessary permissions for liquor and sound use. The Chevella police have booked Mangli, the resort manager, and two others under multiple charges, including violations of the Excise Act, the Loudspeaker Rules, and the NDPS Act.
According to PTI, the police raided the resort on Tuesday night after receiving information about a party in progress. Around 25 guests were reportedly present, and a DJ was playing music. Authorities noted that no license had been issued by the police for using a sound system, nor was there permission from the Excise Department to serve liquor at the commercial venue.
Police also conducted drug screenings on the attendees using NDPS kits. One individual tested positive for marijuana and, upon questioning, admitted to consuming the drug four days prior. Investigators are currently trying to trace the source of the drugs.
Following the incident, Mangli issued a video statement addressing the controversy. She clarified that the gathering was a small, private celebration arranged at her parents’ request, and included close friends and family.
“I wasn’t aware that permissions were needed for sound and liquor. Had I known, I definitely would’ve obtained them. It was a misunderstanding,” she said. Mangli also refuted allegations of drug use at the party. “There were no drugs at the resort. The one guest who tested positive admitted to using marijuana days before. The police didn’t find any drugs on-site, and we are fully cooperating with the investigation,” she added.
As the probe continues, the incident has sparked a wider conversation about accountability and the responsibilities of public figures while hosting events.
